The Nauset Girls Swim Team continued their excellent ways as they swam to a 6th place finish at the Div 2 Sate Swimming Championships. Nauset was the #1 team from the Central/South region beating out Duxbury for the top honors (146.5 to 132)

In her last hurrah as a Nauset Warrior, Sr. Capt. Shylee Stewart was a dominant force all day long. She had career best times in all events and was part of the school record breaking performance in the opening 200 Medley Relay (3rd place-1:52.19) where she split a 31.67 in the 50 yd breast setting the stage for a spectacular meet. Her individual events earned her two medals on the day, 50 free (7th- 25.12) and 100 breast (3rd-1:09.09) In addition, she was part of the 3rd place 400 yd Freestyle relay.

Another "star of the meet" according to the Boston Globe was Jr. Capt. Marie Chamberlain. Chamberlain won two individual state titles in both the 100 fly (56.44) and 100 back (56.09) Both times met 2012-2013 All-America time standards. She was also part of the 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle relays. While both relay efforts were impressive, it was her performance as anchor leg in the 400 Free relay that was the most dramatic. In what was considered the best "come from behind" finish in the entire meet, Chamberlain touched out powerhouse Weston High school in the final stretch making up a four second deficit. Seeded 6th out of 24 relay teams, Nausets 3rd place was a remarkable and fitting finish to an unbelievable season.

Stewart and Chamberlain were not the only standouts from Nauset. Hannah Walsh had the meet of her life, placing in the top 16 in both individual events. 100 fly (15th- 1:03.54) and 500 free (14th- 5:33.15, also a career best time) In addition, she was part of both the 200 Medley and 400 Free Relays. Whitney Knowlton-Wardle scored in two events. The 200 yd IM (15th- 2:24.03) and the 200 Free Relay (13th) in which she was the lead off leg swimming an impressive split of 27.55. Joining her were Kara Smith (27.08- personal best), Olivia Miller (28.05), and Molly Drake (26.75- pb) French exchange student Julie Hayoun had an outstanding performance in the opening Medley relay. She posted a seasons best time of 25.59 in her 50 yd freestyle split and was also part of the 3rd place 400 Free relay. Her best individual performance was in the highly competitive field of the 100 yard free where she placed 18th- just 2 spots out of the scoring. And finally- hats off to Annie Harris for swimming two season best performances. The 200 yd free (2:07.36- 20th) and the 100 yd back (1:06.51- 26th)

The Nauset swim team will celebrate their 2012-2013 season at the Eastham Elks Club on Sunday March 3rd.
